As Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Thomas Muller goals were not enough for the hosts, Kylian Mbappe was the hero with two goals and Marquinhos added another before being forced off injured.
Owing to several absences on both sides, Mauricio Pochettino and Hansi Flick were forced to rearrange their starting XIs, but there was plenty of star power left on the field in Bavaria, and it took only three minutes for it to show, with Mbappe firing past Manuel Neuer after being teed up by Neymar.
It was an uncharacteristic mistake from the Germany international, and compatriot Julian Draxler, a surprise PSG starter, nearly made up for it when he scored only to be called back for a fractional offside.
Les Parisiens were not to be denied, as Marquinhos doubled their lead on 28 minutes after perfectly timing his run to finish off a magnificent second Neymar assist, though the captain was forced to withdraw minutes later due to injury.
Choupo-Moting, a former PSG player, headed in a Benjamin Pavard delivery eight minutes before halftime, completing the most predictable storyline in this match. Leon Goretzka and Niklas Sule were then substituted before the halftime break, joining Marquinhos.
Neuer rescued himself early in the second half by denying Neymar a third goal for PSG, and Muller eventually made Bayern pay for their pressure with an equaliser after being set up by Joshua Kimmich.
At that point, Abdou Diallo had been replaced by Mitchel Bakker, and PSG was using Danilo Pereira as a makeshift central defender, with the visitors facing a rampant Bayern attack that was creating chances at will.
Step forward Mbappe, who was played in by Di Maria after missing an offside chance earlier in the game to re-establish the lead for the French giants and complete an impressive three-goal haul away from home.
Despite good chances late on, most notably from David Alaba, PSG’s defence and goalkeeper Keylor Navas held firm to deny the home side and inflict a first Allianz Arena defeat since a Bundesliga loss at home to Bayer Leverkusen in late 2019.
Pochettino’s men are well-positioned to finish the job and advance at the cost of Flick and his team when they meet again in Paris next week.
